Neuro-immune interactions between neurons and immune cells or immune-like glial cells, which can take place at the level of both peripheral and central nervous system, are very important in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain. Among the immune cells involved in these neuro-immune interactions, macrophages seem to play an important role. In this course you will find out more about the contribution of macrophages from peripheral nerves and dorsal root ganglia to the development of traumatic neuropathic pain, and you will learn how to perform spinal nerve ligation (SNL) and how to isolate macrophages from dorsal root ganglia after SNL for subsequent functional studies.
